Eternal Dance - Samhain

Description

Nothing more to say than this is inspired by the time of Samhain - the day when winter and darkness come to the land and the barrier between this world and the realm of death (and other realms) is said to be the weakest. Next step in the dance is made, seasons change, and the dance continues...

Not exactly new, I think I started to sketch it after Samhain 2006, but finished the colouring this May or something... scanning it and repairing colours ruined by the scan a few days ago.

Note: These are not my characters, these are my deities, even though you don't have to see the difference ;-)

Media: pencil, coloured pencils, adjusted in CPP

V./VII. 2008

I give my permission to :icondapagan: to display my work in the club's gallery... if they want to :-)

I'm here from the "Get Familiar" Project of #ProjectComment, so bear with my incompetence xD

Their pose reminds me of two things:
- the Buddhist concept and symbol of "yin yang", two opposite forces that complement each other in a harmonic way of a circle, of a cycle; the light cirlce you put into the center and how their robes circle around them gives me the impression and I find it very fitting
- the late medieval dances aristocracy used to do, those where the tension was almost unbearable even though the woman and the man barely touched each other hands and always kept a distance between themselves: and yet that was the closest they could get to each other. So seems here for the Goddess and the God.

You say that it took you lots of time and effort to get the colors right or to even finish sketching this, and I think it was worth it. The composition (expecially the background, it really gives off Samhain feel!) is great, and even better with the simple, a bit pale colors.

I researched Samhain in the past, and as far as I remember what it is about, this picture is surely an accurate representation of it. I wish my religious celebrations inspired me so much.
